HRSS organized a day-long training on “Basic concepts of human rights and Human Rights Defending”
This training was arranged with thirty volunteers from Dhaka district under the “Building Youth Capacity to Promote and Protect Human Rights” initiative.
Executive Director Ijajul Islam welcomed participants, highlighting the workshop’s significance in addressing contemporary human rights challenges.
The first session was led by Saifuddin Ahmed, Associate Professor at the University of Dhaka, the session explored the conceptual foundations of human rights. Participants delved into key international documents, including UDHR and ICCPR, analyzing their resonance with Bangladesh’s socio-political context. The lively Q&A segment allowed for participant engagement.
The second session was facilitated by Sazzad Hussain, Program Coordinator at ODHIKAR, this session focused on human rights defenders’ responsibilities. A group activity prompted active participant engagement, with discussions on rights guaranteed by the state. The session concluded with practical insights and a Q&A segment. A brief evaluation test assessed participants’ understanding, reinforcing
key concepts from the morning sessions.
The third session was led by Md Saneequdrat Saqee, Program Officer at HRSS, the afternoon session
explored practical aspects, including task distribution, team building, and human rights
documentation. Ijajul Islam summarized key takeaways, emphasizing practical relevance. The workshop concluded with refreshments, facilitating informal conversations and connections for
future collaboration
