The Human Rights Support Society (HRSS) organized an engaging workshop titled “A Day-Long Comprehensive Training on Basic Understanding of Human Rights and the Role of Youth” on October 2, 2024, at the SUST Research Centre, Sylhet. The workshop aimed to empower youth participants with essential knowledge and skills to advocate for human rights effectively.
The day began with registration and a breakfast session, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Md. Saiful Islam, Program Officer at HRSS, inaugurated the event with a warm welcome speech, followed by an ice-breaking activity that fostered collaboration among attendees.
In Session 1, Advocate Emad Ullah Shahidul Islam explored constitutional protections for human rights in Bangladesh, discussing critical issues like extrajudicial killings. The interactive session allowed participants to share perspectives.
Session 2, led by Prof. Dr. Md Shahbul Haque, provided a detailed understanding of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and its relevance to Bangladesh. Participants engaged in group activities to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world cases.
Post-lunch, an evaluation quiz energized participants before Session 3, where Md. Saiful Islam highlighted the roles and obligations of human rights defenders, sharing practical strategies and personal insights.
The workshop concluded with closing remarks and refreshments, leaving participants inspired and equipped to advocate for human rights. This impactful session emphasized youth’s vital role in creating a just society
